Bedtime Story
Bedtime stories are stories we tell our children to sleep. This Bedtime Story, inspired by another Bedtime Story, is a two minute story for the viewing of our children of twenty-one fifty. It is a short piece that moves quickly, fitting for the kinds of stories we seem only capable of handling today. It is the story about nothing but a girl in her bed, watching TV on the floor, laying on her coffee table. It is a story about the stories she consumes, the images that penetrate into her imagination, the stories she was told to believe, but are quickly revealing themselves as nothing but what they were all along, just stories. Bedtime Story is shot in two overlapping layers, akin to the overlapping layers found in Kim Addonizio's poem by the same name. One has to read between the lines to understand that there is more than what is presented at face value in Kim's poem. This film however, puts it in your face. In every shot: the bed, the coffee table, the TV, and the girl are not present without something else.
