How Could One Walk Through Sand Without Stepping Over Stone?
Isn't it lovely, walking on the beach in summertime. The warm sand, gently exfoliating the bottom of your feet. Soft and supple like a plush carpet. It is such a joy to take your shoes off and walk barefoot. Your feet caged and crammed all other months of the year. The first thing most of us do when we walk through our front doors is take our shoes off, some of us go as far to take the socks off too, to let our feet breathe, soak up the oxygen, the breeze. It's too bad we can't walk barefoot all the time. We sacrifice the pleasure and grounding of walking barefoot in the dirt, connecting ourselves with the core of the earth, in order to not get hurt. To not step over a nail or a shard of glass in an alleyway. How could one walk through sand without stepping over stone? Sand and stone are the same thing after all. Rocks eroded to the point where the roughness becomes softness. Sand and stone are metaphors for the way we endure life, afraid of getting hurt. Once we expose ourselves to joy, pain follows. Fortunately, it goes both ways. Sand and stone are one and the same.
